ERMA New Zealand is made up of:
- the Authority - a quasi-judicial body,
- Ngā Kaihautū Tikanga Taiao - a committee to advise the Authority on Māori issues,
- the Agency - the support organisation.
The Environmental Risk Management Authority (the Authority)
- is an autonomous Crown entity
- is a quasi-judicial, decision-making body
- has up to eight members appointed by the Minister for the Environment
- was established under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act 1996
- is the governing board of ERMA New Zealand
Ngā Kaihautū Tikanga Taiao (Ngā Kaihautū)
- is a statutory committee
- advises the Authority on taking account of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and Māori perspectives
- may have up to seven members, selected for their background expertise
- does not represent individual iwi or hapu but provides independent advise of a generic nature on issues of relevance to Māori under the HSNO Act
The Agency
- was established to carry out operations in support of or on behalf of the Authority
- is made up of five groups: New Organisms; Hazardous Substances; Strategy and Analysis; Corporate Services and Māori.
